Documents Showing Peter Obi Left N86bn For Willie Obiano
By Mazi Odera
"On the 8th of March, I called Nigerians from all walks
of life and presented what I called my “End of Tenure Report”. I
explained where I met Anambra State and where we are leaving her. I made
it clear that we did not borrow a dime neither did we issue bond. I
mentioned our investments and savings in banks. For example, I mentioned
that we saved $156 Million Dollars through buying local and foreign
denominated bonds.
The Managing Directors of the banks
where these money are- Fidelity, Access and Diamond Banks- were present.
It baffles me that some people would come up to cast doubts on people’s
mind just to pull Peter Obi down. All I can say is that what we said
we did, the money we said we left and all that were properly documented
and certified. With the Freedom of Information Law, one can actually
apply to those institutions to know if the money are there.
Let me
take this opportunity to clear one misconception, I did not say I left
all cash in the banks. I made it clear that some were by way of
investment. For example, Anambra State invested money in some of the
companies we attracted to the State.
It is important to let you
know that we were able to save money in the State because we made a law
that Anambra must save a minimum of N100 Million Naira monthly and I
obeyed it religiously.
As a governor, I supported savings by the
country. Look, no matter the situation, one must save even if a kobo
every month for the rainy day. Unfortunately, when one says so, one is
reminded by some people that it is already raining here. The irony is
that the same people saying this have private savings? When one
witnesses the mindset of some of us, one shudders. Many of us are only
interested in the next post and not what the future holds for us as a
country." --- Peter Obi, April 25, 2014
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, yesterday, held a
sensitisation meeting with market women in the state on precautionary
measures to take to stop the spread of the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease
in the state.
Speaking at the meeting with the market women in Benin City,
yesterday, Oshiomhole said, “he meeting today is two parts: first, to
tell you about the Ebola Disease that was brought from another country
to Lagos. We thank God that the disease has not come to Edo State.
“The disease is difficult to manage and so I am advising you as
leaders of market women to talk to your members to be wary of whom they
shake or embrace because the disease causes serious sickness that can
lead to death at short notice”.
He said, “Because of this, it is good that we should know what to do
as people travel to different parts of the country. People walk about
and we do not know those who are infected. That is why we must be
prepared and plan so that if anybody sees any victim, he or she should
know what to do.
The Governor said the second part of his sensitisation meeting is to
let the market women know the value of the INEC Permanent Voters’
Cards. He said: “the INEC voters’ registration and collection of the
Permanent Voters’ Card will soon commence in Edo State. So, I am
advising all of you to set outside whatever you may be doing and go to
your respective centres as may be designated by INEC officials and make
sure you collect your cards because it is your power as the 2015 General
Elections draws closer.
“As busy women, some of you may want to procrastinate your
collection to a later date. It is risky because the exercise according
to INEC will last for three days. So we want to ensure that within those
three days, every market woman goes to the designated centres to
collect their permanent voters’ card because without that, you cannot
vote and if you have the temporary voters card, you will not be allowed
to vote”.
He advised the market women leaders to educate their members on the
need to swear to an affidavit to enable them get permanent voters card
in case their temporal voter’s card has been misplaced.
He however cautioned the market women to jealously guide their
Permanent Voters Card from political miscreants who may want to deceive
them on the pretext that they are keeping it for them maintaining that
the Permanent Voters Card is their power to vote.
Speaking on the effects of the Ebola Virus Disease, the State
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Aihanuwa Eregie told the market women
leaders that the Ebola Virus has been in existence since 1976.
She said, “the virus can be found in animals like monkey, bat,
chimpanzee, etc and hunters who go to the bush to hunt for animals can
get in contact with the virus.
She maintained that though the virus is not presently in Edo State,
but the need for effective sensitization to alert our people in the
state especially the market women who travel from one part of the state
to another become necessary.
She highlighted some of the symptoms to include; headache, weakness
of the body, waist pain, diarrhoea, vomiting, internal and external
bleeding especially bleeding from the gum and advised people to
regularly wash their hands as well as ensure general cleanliness of
their environments.
Responding on behalf of the representatives of the Market Women from
Edo South, the leader of the delegation, Mrs. Blacky Omoregie thanked
the Comrade Governor for the sensitization meeting stressing that the
market women will respond to the call for personal hygiene and caution.
According to her, “we thank you our Comrade Governor on this very
important meeting and I want to assure you that our market women will be
enlightened on the need to observe precautionary measures so as to
prevent the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in the state as well as
ensure that they all collect their permanent voters cards when the time
comes.”

Pascal Ugbomhe is Director of Organization/Operations of the Edo State
chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. He was a two-time member
of the State House of Assembly, and before then, a local government
council chairman and former vice-chairman of the party in the state.
Ugbomhe is now in the race for the Edo North Senatorial ticket of his
party and in this interview he speaks on reinventing the party in the
state and how it is poised to challenge the ruling All Progressives
Congress, APC. Excerpts: You have been in political hibernation since 2007 after serving as a member of the Edo State House of Assembly and a local government chairman. Why your interests in the Senate come 2015?
I was not on political hibernation since 2007 as you said; I have
been involved in other areas of the polity. Although I have not held
elective positions as it were, I have been involved in the management of
the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State.
You will recall that after I left office as council chairman, I became
the State Vice-Chairman of the PDP in the state and with the advent of
the Chief Dan Orbih led leadership of the party, I was appointed the
Director of Organization/Operations of the party so that I can bring my
experience and technical knowledge to assist the leadership in the
running of the party. To the glory of God, today, the PDP in Edo state
has become a beautiful brand, it has become the most attractive brand;
it has become a viable vehicle through which people are now aspiring to
occupy one political position or the other. That is what I have been
doing. It is not political hibernation as you said. What are your chances of winning your party’s nomination?
I believe that my chances are as bright as others that are contesting
with me, if not even brighter because I am not alien to the party. I
have been involved in the building and sustenance of the party’s
platform more than every other person who now wants to use it to sustain
their political interests. The people know me, the party knows and had
tried me, tested me both in elective responsibility and in the
management of the party. With all sense of humility, I have been proven
to be credible, loyal, dependable, disciplined and one with principles.
These are some of the qualities which I believe that at the end of the
day, perhaps; make the party to see me at this point in time as a square
peg in a square hole. There is this belief that the conduct of the PDP primaries to
elect candidates into elective political positions may make or mar the
fortunes of the party in the forth coming general elections. What is
your take on this?
Well, for those who may be expecting this, they don’t have better
democratic credentials than those of us in the PDP. I believe that the
PDP will learn from the mistakes of the past, I believe that we have
evolved; I am a democrat and those running the party are democrats and
if not for democracy, perhaps; we would all have been in the APC if we
were to be playing politics just for the stomach case. I and those
managing the affairs of the party in the state are not enemies to
Governor Adams Oshiomhole or
to the people in the APC. I am not sure that given what we have gone
though in the past seven years or so that we would be in hurry to allow
the party to crumble. What are the chances of the PDP wining elections in Edo North Senatorial zone considering the fact Governor Adams Oshiomhole hails from there?
You know many things come to play in an election; I don’t even see it
that way. We are not strangers to our people in Edo North. The governor
has had his time and his time is gradually fading away, coming to an
end, so, it is going to be a new dawn for Edo North; Afemai does not
revolve round Governor Oshiomhole and will not end with him. So, to me, I
think it will be wrong to say that elections in Edo North would be
between Oshiomhole and the PDP .No. We all have own pedigrees and
history in Afemai land and when it comes to the general election, it
will be on issues. As a former member of the Edo State House of Assembly, what is your take on the crisis rocking the Assembly?
My brother, I weep for Edo State, I weep for the State legislature.
I need to advise my colleagues who are there now that history is looking at them. Culled from :Here

THEpolitical prognosis for the build up to the Edo State
2016 governorship election promises different scenarios that could be
interesting. Of course, the ways and methods of producing an acceptable
candidate are unpredictable, especially as it relates to the choice of
the most acceptable candidates by the two contending political parties,
the All Progressive Congress, […]
THE most important preoccupation in town at this time of the
year is the jostling for the 2015 general elections. Many political
gladiators, their supporters as well as pundits are involved in the fray
leading to the elections coming up early in 2015. The jostling is
reaching fever pitch and nobody is leaving any stone […]
ALL truly concerned stakeholders, honest observers and indeed,
dispassionate analysts, are already dilating on not only who takes the
baton from incumbent Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, but how
he/she will emerge as preparations gather momentum by the day. Quite
interestingly, the tone of what to expect soon was set when recently,
Oba Rilwan Akiolu […]
WE can never underestimate the evil in politics until we are
victims; this is where the strain between loyalty and deceit is chaotic.
Many equate deceit for loyalty but loyalty entails telling the truth
and giving facts to promote societal good; unfortunately for “political
bats and mosquitoes” blackmail is the bedrock to political ascendancy.

THAT there is all round decay in our educational sector in
Nigeria is no news. What may be news is the level the decadence has
taken on the quality of graduates we produce in our primary to
university education. We now produce university graduates who cannot
fill NYSC form. We now produce university graduates who can’t take or
read ordinary minutes of simple meetings.
A university graduate was appointed as a secretary of a
political ward. Members were shocked when he could not read the minutes
of their previous meeting in which he acted as a secretary. It was clear
to the members that someone developed the minutes for him. At the end a
primary 6 holder read the minutes and was made the secretary. I have
seen a university graduate who could not write the names of his
kingsmen. It is that bad. Yet many stake holders especially teachers
appears to be comfortable with it.
Teachers that prepared these bunch of block heads and
certified them graduates ought to bury their heads in shame, but the
reverse is the case. It all boil down to corruption which to me is the
first and last problem of our dear country Nigeria. Most teachers are
corrupt, they collect money from students in exchange for marks in
internal exams and aid them in cheating in external exams. For this
reason they don’t teach. If teachers who are the custodians of
educational values could aid and mastermind the acquisition of paper
qualification instead of intellectual qualification where is our future?
In Edo State one can better describe the educational sector as
pre-Oshiomhole and Oshiomhole era. The pre-Oshiomhole era was the dark
days where everything negative was the order of the day. The Oshiomhole
era is what one can call the transformation era which like any other
transformational changes are always unpalatable and resisted.
In the pre-Oshiomhole era the level of commitment to education
on the part of government and teachers was very low. Nearly all the
primary and secondary schools were in a state of total dilapidation.
Children were learning under trees and sitting on the floor. Teachers
were poorly motivated, educational/instruction materials were not
provided, teachers were grossly inadequate, the few employment done were
based on political patronage where party leaders were given slots, it
was strictly who you know or cash and carry. Promotion and portfolio was
not based on competence or seniority which are the universally known
criteria. It was based on where you ‘fellowship’ or who your political
father is. Many schools were broken down to several schools still in one
compound just to create room for political loyalists to be
principals/school heads.
Level 13 teachers were heading teachers on level 14 above.
Every action of government concerning education was purely political.
Any teacher perceived to be in the opposition party was either demoted,
denied promotion, suspended unjustly or transferred to a remote village
school. Government shot itself on the foot by neglecting and
politicizing education.
Teachers on their part have to respond to governments act of
irresponsibility. They have to survive in the face of very poor and
irregular salary. They took teaching as a secondary job, any job that
could put food on their table became their first job. To get money they
have to sell anything sellable and that included examination marks. Edo
State became a national exam centre. Students from other
states were coming to Edo State in large numbers to enroll because the
cheating rate was second to non in the country. Students naturally did
not see the need to study since they can pay and get all the credits
they needed. Teachers were happy making money while parents and students
were happy buying result.
Teachers were not ready to teach, students were not ready to
learn and government was not ready to spend money on education. They
were all comfortable, government was diverting the money for education
into private pockets. Teachers were making money and students were
getting paper qualification. There was a diabolic conspiracy to ruin the
educational sector in Edo State. Government, teachers, parents and
students were comfortable with the rot because of their individual
immediate gains.
In the Oshiomhole era we have seen a lot •of commitment on the
part of government. Teachers welfare has improved, schools are being
renovated, learning materials are provided, exam malpractices has
reduced drastically, war against corruption/indiscipline is at top gear.
But what is the response of the teachers? As the saying goes; bad habit
is easy to learn but difficult to leave.
Those benefiting from a rotten system will always resist
change. Despite the fight some teachers are still adamant, they have
refused to let go of their bad habits, they are opposing every
reformatory move by the government. As at today, many still go to school
late, some still stay away from school, they still collect money to aid
cheating in external exams, some still go to school and stay away from
class. Their only interest is salary and extortion from students.
Edo State is now forward ever and backward never. Government
is matching forward, teachers should get along. Red roof and white board
is nothing without dedicated and competent teachers.
Any one that says there are no non-dedicated and incompetent
teachers in our schools is being economical with the truth.
Qualification is different from dedication and competence, have we ever
imagined the damages these non-committed and incompetent teachers are
doing to our collective future? Certificate only show qualification, it
does not show competence and dedication, only performers show these.
I appreciate the Comrade governor for living up to his
constitutional responsibility toward education. He has done much and is
still doing much. There are some he can’t do before his tenure expires
but there are some he can do that he has not done. Yes salary is regular
and yes the issue of increment has been settle; Retired teachers
should be taken care of so that the ones in service will be happy to
retire. More teachers should be employed and promotion should be as at
when due. If these are done coupled with the regular salary, teachers
will not have any genuine reason not to perform.
Edo 2016: Oshiomhole has not picked successor —Aide •We’ll not allow Oshiomhole to choose successor —PDP
19.May.2014
Banji Aluko– Benin City.
AN aide to Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, Mr John Akhigbe,
said on Sunday that the governor had not picked a successor to take
over from him in 2016.
Akhigbe, a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol,
said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in
Benin.
He said this while reacting to speculations that the crisis rocking
the party was as a result of the governor’s overbearing influence in
the running of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) But Akhigbe said the governor was a democrat who believes that the choice of the next governor should be made by the people.
“The governor has consistently maintained that it will not do the
state or anybody any good to be discussing what is over two years away.
“So, the governor has not anointed anybody because he has not said
anything and I don’t think the governor I know will anoint anybody.
“He has told us that the leaders of the party will decide and the leaders have not yet decided.
“He has also said it is not time for 2016 and that people should
reason with us that governance is more important to Edo people than the
person who will be governor in 2016,” he said.
``We have all agreed that the idea of succession should be laid to rest for now,” he stated.
On the alleged over bearing influence of the governor, Akhigbe said: “ How can he be influencing the running of the party?”
``They have also blamed him for being responsible for the
misunderstanding in the party because he (Oshiomhole) wants to build
his political structure.
``In fact, the governor does not believe that you must build a structure to be able to get a position politically. ``He believes the structure that you should build is building yourself in the heart of the masses. ``The
governor cannot be influencing anything in the party because he is not
the one running the party but he is a leader in the party.
Meanwhile, Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
has stated that it will thwart efforts by the state governor, Adams
Oshiomhole, at choosing the next governor of the state.
Edo State chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, who stated this
while speaking at the weekend in Benin at a rally organised to welcome
defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikpoba Okha Local
Government Area to the PDP, said that the people had since realised that
the government could not be trusted to deliver on its electoral
promises, hence they would resist plans by the governor to decide who
would govern the state.
“They have realized that he is the exact opposite of what he claims
to be. Edo people will not make the same mistake again. As he is going,
his party, the APC, and the hardship they have brought upon Edo people
will go with them.
Never again shall we allow stranger to rule us. He came from Kaduna
and Edo people have realized the error they made in putting their faith
in a stranger. More than five years after his government, he has not
fulfilled his electoral promises,” Orbih said.
He pointed out that it was sad that the government was finding it
difficult to power the generator at the Benin Central Hospital while the
governor embarks on a wild goose chase of looking for foreign investors
that costs over N40 million per trip and more than N4.5 billion in
total. Also speaking at the rally, the PDP chairman in Ikpoba Okha
Local Government, Hon Scot Osagiede expressed joy that leaders of the
PDP in all the wards of the council have seen reasoned to return home,
pointing out that with their entrant to the PDP, the end has come for
the APC the council.
Among those that defected from the APC along with their followers
from the ten wards of the local government are Chief Dan Osabuohien,
Nelson Edosomwan, Elder Sunday Osawe, Mrs. Rose Okungbowa and Elder Mike
Ojo.

MACTSTACOPRIME has partnered with the Benin Chamber of Commerce
Industry Mines and Agriculture (BENCCIMA) and the Edo State government
on a one week trade fair in Benin City.
Secretary to Edo State Government (SSG), Professor Julius Ihonvbere,
who represented Governor Adams Oshiomhole at the fair, said his
administration was planning to privatize or resuscitate ailing
industries across the state, just as he said his administration has
partnered with the Bank of Industry (BoI) to create N500 million soft
facility for small and medium scale enterprises.
With the theme “Great People, Bountiful Resources, and Boundless
Opportunities,” the governor said his administration has simplified land
acquisition challenges, which he said has been a challenge for
investors nationwide.
He noted that the process of land documentation in Edo State could
now be done in 48 hours while Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) could
now be received within 30 days.
He also disclosed that the state government has concluded plans for
the construction of industrial, furniture and specialized market for
industrial goods.
The governor added that the state government would periodically adjust its policy frame work in order to meet global standard.
Earlier in his address, President of BENCCIMA, Andy Edobor, commended
the state government for supporting the event but appealed for the
completion of the permanent site for the BENCCIMA.
He said the event could not hold at the chamber’s permanent site in
the state capital because “there are no basic infrastructural facilities
at the complex, adding that “adjoining roads to the trade fair ground
have become dilapidated and unmotorable”
He called on the government to held build the complex with expected facilities.
Chairman of the Trade Fair Steering Committee, Austin Atakpu, called
on manufacturers, entrepreneurs and Small, Medium Enterprises (SMEs)
operators across the country to invest in the state because of enabling
environment provided by the government.
THE Edo State government has warned residents of the state to adhere
strictly to measures that will prevent the outbreak of Lassa fever, a
deadly desease caused by rats.
The Director of Disease Control, Ministry of Health, Dr Osamwonyi
Irowa, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria
(NAN) in Benin.
Irowa advised the people to avoid getting into contact with rats,
endeavour to keep food items in covered containers, keep their
environment clean and avoid bush burning.
The director reminded the people that Edo is one of the states that have cases of Lassa fever.
“The disease is endemic in Edo Central and some parts of Edo North Senatorial Districts,’’ he said.
“One case of Lassa fever in any territory is an outbreak, we have had
two cases in the state this year and effort is being made to reduce
the incident of the disease.’’
He called on the people to go for early treatment once they felt the disease had been contracted, noting that it is fatal.
“Anybody who has symptoms such as fever, sore throat, diarrhea and
pink eye, among others, should get screened immediately, for
confirmation and treatment,” he said.
According to him, treatment is free for those exposed to the virus in the state and other parts of the country.
He described as false, the belief in some quarters that indigenes of
the endemic areas in the state were not affected by the disease.
“Lassa fever is not a spiritual thing; indigenes also die when they come in contact with the disease.
“It is just that most times, they don’t access treatment and when
they die, they say the cause of the death is spiritual,’’ Irowa said.
He, however, said that some people had immunity and may not come down
with the disease, adding that researches were on to provide a vaccine
for it.
Edo State
Government has threatened to deal decisively with anyone who flouts its
earlier ban on the collection of illegal levies and rates from road
transport workers in the state.
This was made known yesterday by the Chief of Staff to the Edo State Governor, Hon Patrick Obahiagbon when crowd of commercial bus drivers from Ekiosa and Ring Road motor parks in Benin City led a protest to Government House to intimate the Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on the outright disregard of its ban on the illegal levies and rates.
Throwing more light on the statement earlier made on the issue by the Secretary to the state Government, Prof Julius lhonvbere, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon stressed that Akugbe
Ventures remains the only body authorized to collect personal income
tax from road transport workers on behalf of the state government,
adding that levies and rates earlier collected from road transport
workers by Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, National
Union of Road Transport Workers and others remain banned.
The chief of Staff said that anyone who flouts government directive is
aiming to test the capacity of the state government to enforce its rules
and decisions and as such the culprits would face the wrath of the law.
Condemning the defaulters, Obahiagbon said thus; ‘They are testing the resolve and capacity of the Edo
State Government to enforce its rules and decisions. Don’t take laws
into your hands because the government can implement its rules and
decisions.”
Earlier, the spokesman of the protesters, Mr. Victor Edusa said they were beaten up yesterday morning when they refused to pay the levies and rates banned by the government.
Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole
will today, meet members of the Federal House of Representatives
Committee on Public Petition over public outcry on the alleged
complicity and improper investigation of the murder of Comrade OyerindeOlaitan by the Nigeria Police.
Governor Oshiomhole in collaboration with civil society organisations in Edo State will be attending a public hearing of the House of Representatives in furtherance to the February l3, 2Ol3
first meeting of the Committee on Public Petition against the Nigeria
police on alleged improper investigation and complicity made by Edo State Civil Society organisations on the death of Comrade OyerindeOlaitan.
Human rights fighter, and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), FemiFalana is expected to stand for the Edo State Civil Society, while Comrade Peter Esele will lead the TUC to the public hearing.
Meanwhile, the unfounded charges and framing up of Comrade David Ugolor, on the cruel assassination of the Private Secretary to the Edo State Governor, Comrade OlaitanOyerinde was unanimously condemned by the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) during its NEC meeting held in Benin City on Thursday last week.
In a communique signed and issued by the President General and Secretary General, Comrade Peter Esele and (Barr.) Musa Lawal respectively TUC called for justice on the dastardly assassination of Comrade OlaitanOyerinde.
The NEC-in session, while praising the endurance of Comrade David Ugolor,
called on the National Assembly to ensure justice as demanded by the
acquitted freedom fighter, particularly in relation to the role played
by the police authorities.
Comrade Peter Esele and Barr. Musa Lawal in the NEC Session maintained that the TUC also throws its weight behind the position of the Edo
State Governor in calling for justice especially on the unedifying role
played by the police on this matter. Besides, the NEC in session in its
resolution at the end of the meeting joined well- meaning Nigerians in
condemning the misappropriation of N4bn for the proposed First Lady’s Mission Home.
While lending its voice to Prof. WoleSoyinka’s
view that the project is a mind-boggling fiscal misappropriation, the
NEC in session maintained that such project is another drain pipe on the
nation’s economy.
The executive body of the union therefore called on the Federal
Government to stop forthwith the project, stressing that all monies
proposed for the mission home should be applied to create jobs for the
unemployed youths in Nigeria.
Edo assembly members criticise media for addressing them as APC legislators
Uyi Igbe, Speaker Edo House
Members
of Edo State House of Assembly elected on the platform of All
Progressives Congress (APC) have criticsed the media, especially the
electronic media, for referring to them as “APC legislators”.
The
Chairman, House committee on Information, Kabiru Adjoto, expressed the
opinion of the legislators in Benin on Wednesday during plenary of the
group at the Old Assembly Complex.
“I want to correct an
impression and the use of language in some media, especially the
electronic media. The media should stop referring to us as APC
lawmakers.
“We are not APC legislators but honourable members of
the house elected on the APC platform by the people to represent them in
Edo State House of Assembly.
He legislators led by the Speaker of
the assembly, Uyi Igbe, are serving the state and not the party. “I am
using this medium to inform the media and the public to address the
legislators and Mr Speaker properly as honourable members of the house,”
Adjoto said.
Also,
the Majority leader, Philip Shaibu, said the lawmakers were holding
their plenary in the Old Assembly Complex sharing a fence with the
Government House.
“If we want to hold plenary in Government House, we would have used the executive chambers which is roomier.
Shaibu
said he had watched with keen interest how the house was being
addressed as APC lawmakers sitting in the Governor’s Office and
described the development as misinformation.
He urged the media to
use the right words where appropriate. NAN reports that the assembly
has been in crisis since 9 June, following the suspension of four
lawmakers, including the Deputy Speaker, Festus Ebea.
The minority
PDP legislators hold their plenary in the assembly complex, while the
majority APC legislators sit at the Old Assembly Complex.
President Jonathan Congratulates Governor Rauf Aregbesol
President Goodluck Ebele
Jonathan has congratulated Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State on his
victory in Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
The president made this known in a statement signed by Reuben Abati
Special Adviser to the President on Media & and Publicity.
The President commends the Independent National Electoral Commission
and national security agencies for ensuring that the elections were
free, fair, credible and peaceful in keeping with the avowed commitment
of his Administration.
President Jonathan also applauds the people of Osun State who came
out enmasse yesterday in all the local government areas of the state to
peacefully and freely exercise their democratic right, trusting in his
assurance that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure their
safety and the sanctity of their votes.
The President believes that the free, fair and peaceful conduct of
the elections have fully reaffirmed his administration’s determination
to positively reform Nigeria’s electoral processes.
The outcome of the election has also given the lie to the false,
unfair and uncharitable allegations that measures put in place by the
federal government for the Ekiti and Osun State elections were partisan
and designed to achieve a favourable outcome for his party.
As Governor Aregbesola prepares to begin a second term in office,
President Jonathan looks forward to continuing to work with him and
other state governors to further improve the living conditions of
Nigerians in Osun and other states of the country.

PDP Rejects Osun Governorship Election Result
Meanwhile, the Osun State
chapter of the People’s Democratic Party has rejected the election
result declaring Governor Rauf Aregbesola as the winner of the
governorship poll.
The PDP agent in the election and State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Bola
Ajao, distanced the party from the result after the announcement of the
outcome of the poll by the Returning Officer, Professor bamitale Omole,
this morning, in Osogbo.
Mr. Ajao refused to sign the election results form given to agents at the INEC office.
The party spokesman faulted the process of the election, saying some of the figures published were unacceptable.
He said the party had earlier written a petition to INEC, complaining about the election process in some units.

the nation’s healthcare system to ensure it delivers effectively to the
people.
The Governor who decried the incessant strikes by medical personnel
in the country said “even blue collar workers don’t resort to strikes as
frequently as our medical doctors do.”
Speaking at the inauguration of the Hospitals Management Board; Land
Use and Allocation Committee; Traditional Medicine Board and Edo Arts
Council, yesterday (Monday), Oshiomhole said “to get the best from the
health sector, I am convinced that we need to completely overhaul the
system. We need a healthcare system that operates on the best world
practices. This means that it cannot be business as usual because the
system has not been working.
“As at today, many of our doctors are putting in few hours into
government work and the remaining hours on their personal work. It hurts
me that people that the world is focusing on, especially in this period
when people talk about Ebola Virus which has no cure yet are on strike.
Though in Edo State, it is not here and will not be here, all of us must pray that it does not get to our boundary.
“Nigeria must live beyond where the medical doctors walk out of
their jobs and their patients are left dying. Even blue collar workers
don’t resort to strikes as frequently as our medical doctors do. I do
not think that we can continue in that way.
“We can play with everything, but we shouldn’t play with human
lives. The most important resource of any government is the people,
because without life if we construct roads, who will drive on them, if
we build schools with fine roofs who is going to attend the schools?
“So the fundamental thing is life. However, because people can leave
work for as long as they want with the slightest provocation if there
is any, and then return to collect accumulated salaries with taxes
collected from patients who are dying, then the problem will continue. I
am a worker, I’ve been a Union leader, I have organized strikes but I
understand the difference between essential services, life-saving sector
vis-à-vis other sectors.
“So we need a robust debate on how to reposition the health sector
and it will be your lot to ensure that those who receive money from
government in the name of service put in commensurate work. A situation
in which somebody who is supposed to be at the Central Hospital or at
the Stella Obasanjo Hospital or at the Auchi General Hospital or other
General Hospitals is diverting patients to private clinics will
certainly be unacceptable.”
“As we speak, the construction work at the Central Hospital Complex
is ongoing and I’m sure that the first part of the hospital which is
called the Emergency/Management Control Centre will be ready within the
next few months.
Once that hospital is completed, we will put in the latest
state-of-the-art medical equipment and obviously we will have to
seriously engage management on how to ensure that the investment
translates to effective asset to every Edo man and woman that needs
medical care.”
In their various responses the Chairmen thanked the Governor for the
honor done them and promised to justify the confidence reposed in them.
They pledged to leave their boards better than they met it and pleadged their loyalty to government.

he Traditional Medicine Board has Prof. Thomas Omon-Oleabhile as

No
fewer than three persons were confirmed dead following a torrential
rain on Sunday in Igarra, headquarters of Akoko Edo Local Council of Edo
state.
NAN reports that houses and household items were submerged by heavy flooding caused by the rain.
An
eyewitness, Akinola Onabiyi, told NAN on Monday at Igarra that the
rain, which started about 5:00 p.m. lasted for about 8 hours had
rendered hundreds of people homeless.
“The flood occasioned by the rain swept people off the road into a nearby bridge where the two persons died.
“Another
victim, a middle aged man in Utua area of the community, was said to
have visited a friend when the building collapsed on him. His body was
also recovered from the debris this morning.”
The traditional
ruler of Igarra, Adeche Saiki, confirmed the death of the persons,
saying that the community was devastated by the flood.
Saiki
called on relevant government agencies and good spirited individuals and
organisations to assist the victims to restart their lives.
“We
are shocked at the level of damage. Many houses have collapsed and some
totally unhabitable as their structures have failed. We lost three
persons; one of them an undergraduate who was coming home from school.
“We need urgent assistance of both the local and state governments because many people are homeless now.
“For the dead, some of them have been buried today; the families need the support to continue their lives.
“We
are appealing passionately to both the local government, state
government and the Federal Government through the National Emergency
Management Agency (NEMA) to come to our aid,” he said.

PDP ELDERS NOW WARMING UP TO OSHIOMHOLE
WHAT IS THAT?
This may just be evidence of his ongoing behind-the-scene negotiations to return back to his former party PDP.
Is somebody still doubting the strange dream I had some few days ago?
My God bless edo state, and show us the part to success.
BENIN CITY- Residents of Ugbiyoko Community in Benin City have commended the Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for a work well done in the community.
They made the commendation in their reaction when the news crew visited the community recently.
It would be recalled that before now, the road leading to
Ugbiyoko Community was in bad state until the state government
rehailitated it earlier this year.
In an interview, some residents of the community including
Mr Osahon Ehimwenma appreciated the Governor for a work well done,
especially for constructing the road which provided access to different
parts of the community.
Another respondent, Mrs. Agnes Ehiagwina also commended the
good governance of Governor Oshiomhole and therefore used the
opportunity to pray for continuity in the governing process.
She also used the opportunity to call on his detractors to
desist from it and give their Maximum support to bring transformation to
Edo State.
Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic
Party(PDP) and father of Chief Lucky Igbinedion, former Governor of Edo
state on Thursday visited Governor Adams Oshiomhole at the Government
House, in Benin; Leadership reported.
The closed door visit lasted for about 35-minutes. Unnamed sources who
were present claimed that part of the issues discussed during the visit
was the crisis in the Edo state House of Assembly.
However, after the meeting, Chief Igbinedion and Governor Oshiomhole refused to disclose what the meeting was about.
Chief Igbinedion simply said, "He is the governor of Edo State and I
have come to see my governor". On his part, Governor Oshiomhole
congratulated the PDP chieftain on his forthcoming birthday.
